Sapphire

Sapphire is traditionally a blue member of the corundum family (the red variety being ruby) and is the birthstone for the month of September. Sapphires however can occur in any color including white, clear, yellow, pink, green, orange and brown. It is believed to cure mental illness, rhumatism and colic as well as providing spiritual enlightenment and inner peace. Sapphire has also been believed to have anti-depressant qualities and promote clairvoyance, telepathy, and astral projection. Sapphire is the second hardest naturally occuring mineral and has a hardness of 9 out of 10 on the Mohs' Scale.
